Reflections 2009 Theme - 'Beauty Is' Print

The Churchill Road School PTA Reflections Program is part of the National PTA Reflections Program. The Reflections Program is an arts recognition program started in 1969 by Mary Lou Anderson, a former National PTA board member. Since the Reflections Program began, it has become one of National PTA's most popular programs, with over 500,000 students participating each year.

Students may submit a work of art in six different categories
(more than one entry is fine!):

  • Literature
  • Musical Composition
  • Photography
  • Visual Arts
  • Dance Choreography
  • Film/Video Production

Participating in Reflections is easy as 1-2-3:

One: Think about the theme "Beauty Is..." and what it means to you
Two: Read the general and category rules and pick your category(ies)

Three: Create an original piece of artwork, compose an Artist Statement, and complete an entry form for each submission (placed in ziploc bag or sheet protector and taped behind the submitted artwork).  The form must be filled out electronically and signed by the student and parent

As you get started with Reflections, please remember:

  • All entries submitted must be original works and relate to the annual Reflections Program theme.
  • Each entry must be the work of only one student. Assistance from teachers, parents or friends is not permitted except in special cases (such as for those with visual or physical disabilities)
  • Participation encourages creativity and exploration. Students should do their best, but crooked lines, incorrect musical notes, or misspelled words do not disqualify anyone.
  • Student works will be critiqued against others in the same grade divisions, which for Churchill students includes: Primary (preschool - Grade 2), Intermediate (Grade 3 - 5), and Middle (Grades 6 - 8).  This allows recognition and judging of artworks by appropriate developmental age and skill levels.

We also encourage you to visit the National PTA Reflections home page to see:

  • More information on Reflections and how to get started
  •  Gallery of nationally recognized entries for excellence and merit.

The Churchill Road PTA will host a reception to honor all entrants later in the year. We will recognize one Outstanding and two Excellent Interpretations in each category. The Outstanding Interpretation submissions will be entered in the County-level competition.
